I learned my lesson from last week and made sure to research the next destination on my list. I originally planned to go to one of my South City destinations, either Sump or Foam, but found out Foam wouldn’t be open and Sump doesn’t offer food. At all. That’s obviously a deal breaker for my tour, though I’ll keep them on my radar for a weekend visit because I’ve heard rave reviews. I was still feeling the aftershock of my Chicago visit, so I honestly chose to ride to the closest cafe remaining on my list – Plush in Mid-Town on Locust.
One of the pro’s of this ride was I finally discovered the dedicated bike route from Forest Park down Pine Ave, which eventually hits Boyle, one of the streets I took to Park Avenue in Lafayette Square. Pine only went so far, so I had no choice but to get on Lindell, my arch-nemesis in terms of city streets. As usual, I stopped at every single light. I think I even sat at a duck crossing (those damn ducks again!). After about 7 miles and 30 minutes I made it to Plush. I don’t remember how it made it on my list of coffee shops because I wouldn’t really call it that… My entrance at 10 am was like arriving to a party two hours early and seeing everyone still setting up. Like many restaurants, I’m sure mornings are a critical time to prep for their prime business of lunch and dinner, and if they’re there they might as well put a pot of coffee on.
Plush’s website touts its live music and shows, so my visit didn’t really do it justice. Maybe one day I’ll make it back after dark and see what it’s really about. I’m guessing it’s a pretty hip place to be.
The wind at my back, caffeine, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers Greatest Hits helped me cover the 7 miles home in record time. My next step is to double check my list to make sure my remaining stops are all worth the trek, since none are less than 20 miles round-trip. Wow, based on that last sentence I think I’m officially a donut snob…
Thanks again for your support. If you know of someone that might enjoy my rants and reviews please feel free to pass along the blog.
