Back in March I donated a certificate for a custom hand-painted wine bottle to the silent auction at the Estelle Kampmeyer 2012 Trivia Night in O’Fallon, IL. Eventually I was contacted by the happy winner to do a bottle for her nephew’s wedding, which was June 23. The newlyweds, Joseph and Amie, chose the St. Louis Blues colors for the occasion, so I made the entire bottle Blues themed, from the monogram’s font style to the logos and player. They first met at Broadway Oyster Bar downtown, so I added that beneath the back label as well.
That is why I love commissions so much, because everyone has a different story, and a different motivation for giving a gift. Each and every person is creative in some way, and it just takes the right environment or situation to bring it out. As an artist, it is very gratifying and inspiring to learn about the unique ideas others have, and I love that my job is to interpret that idea and communicate it visually in the most effective way I can.
Congratulations Amie and Joseph! Hopefully your bottle is a good luck charm for the Blues to make it even further in the playoffs next season.
